Making Time for What You Love as a Busy Mom

In motherhood, there’s so much to do.

It can feel overwhelming.

You may feel behind, with our endless to-do lists.

You wear so many hats as a mom.

You’re a chef, a playmate, a chauffeur, a butler, a waiter, a nurse, a janitor, a teacher, and the list goes on.

But, there are only 24 hours in a day.

So how can we get everything done and make time to do the things we love?

Here’s how you can make time for what you love in your day, Mama.

1.  Evaluate Your To-Do List

Are there things on there that you really don’t need to be doing that you could shift or eliminate? Letting go of things that are no longer necessary could help you simplify the things that you do need to get done.

It can be good to stop and periodically evaluate with on your to-do list. And there may be things that you have on your list that are no longer important or things that you can consolidate and to simplify things for yourself.

When we, when we do fewer things, we can do those things better, instead of spreading ourselves so thin and just doing a bunch of things, mediocrely.

2.  Ask For Help

Asking for help can be challenging for moms and women in general. Many times we see asking for help as a sign of weakness, but really what could be showing more strength, than knowing what you want and need and then having the courage to ask for help to achieve these wants and needs.

There are many ways you can ask for and receive help. Some ideas for getting help are:

– Hire help like a Nanny or a Mother’s Helper/Babysitter

– Housekeeper

–  Ask Your Spouse Support Around the House

– Get Your Kids Involved Helping Around the House

–  Ask for Help from Extended Family or Trusted Friends

– Get Your Groceries Delivered

– Join a Babysitting Co-Op

3.  Find & Move Towards Your Vision

Now that you have created more space in your day, make a list of things that matter to you.

What are your values? What brings joy to you? What do you want your life to look like?

Get out your journal and start writing down your vision for yourself. Often as moms, we get lost in motherhood. Motherhood is such an amazing and important job on the journey, but you’re more than just a mom. You’re a beautiful, vibrant woman and, and you’re allowed to have dreams and passions outside of motherhood.

Write down what some of those passions are. It can include your family. It can just be for you. There is no right or wrong answer here.

Think about what you want your days to feel like? What do you want your future to look like?

Maybe you want to focus on your health. Or maybe their some vacations you want to take. Maybe you want to learn a new skill. Maybe you want to have lunch with your girlfriends more often.

Write it all down or make a vision board and be as specific as you can.

When you have that, look at that list or vision board and compare it to the list of things you spend your time on.

So take the things that matter to you and compare them to what you’re actually spending your time on and see if they line it up.

This might be really eye-opening. It’s a really powerful practice to see if the things that you’re spending your time on are getting you closer to the life that you want to have.

So look at those two lists side by side.

Maybe you want to ask for help cleaning your house so that you can spend that time going for hikes with your family, starting a new hobby, learning a new skill, or even taking a nap.

Don’t Forget to Celebrate

Remember that we often have an incredibly long list of things to do, and we sometimes forget to look at the things that we did get done.

We actually do accomplish many things each day, week, and month. So remember to notice and celebrate all of the amazing things you did get done!

Be the Mom You Long to Be
