Did you know that your smile lights up a room?

Even if we haven’t met, I know this to be true.

When I was in elementary school and there was an upheaval in my home as my parents were going through their divorce.

I remember feeling lost and confused, and it felt easier to close myself off.

So I found myself frowning a lot.

And I remember someone saying to m, “You know, it takes more muscles to frown than to smile.”

One of the things that I now get the most compliments on is my smile.

I love to smile.

And not only does it make me feel good, it impacts my relationships and the world around me.

But I also get it, Mama. When life feels hard, it can feel easier to shut down.

But if you close yourself off to the world, you miss out on connecting with the beautiful soul that you are and experiencing the gifts you bring to the world. There’s a quote that I love by Thich Nhat Hanh that simply says

“Smile, breathe, and go slowly.”

And it’s a mantra that I hold near and dear to my heart.

Even if you feel like the world is rushing by you and you’re struggling to keep up and you can’t seem to find an ounce of time for yourself, I want you to pause and breathe with me right now. Remind yourself that it’s okay to smile.

It’s okay to pause and breathe.

And even though it may not feel like it, it’s okay to slow down. You won’t miss out on anything by slowing your pace.

It’s okay to smile and be happy.

The simple act of smiling can change.

Your outlook, it can change your mood.

And it can even inspire and light.

Up another person’s world.

So today, I invite you to smile, to breathe, and to go slowly.
