So today I want to share with you some benefits of spending time outdoors in nature and some outdoor selfcare activities and ideas to inspire you to infuse your days and your self care.

Benefits of Outdoor Self Care

Spending time in nature has so many benefits. Spending time in nature can help you emotionally, it can improve the way that you’re feeling, it can help to lift your spirits, it can help to bring a sense of calm and ease and it helps your physical well being as well, right?

It can help to release muscle tension, it can help to release and reduce stress and helps you to slow down. It just helps you to step back from the busyness of life and recenter and reconnect with yourself. It can help you to step out of the mental chatter of the mind and come back to the present moment.

It can also be really beneficial in helping you to make decisions. It can help you to find new perspectives and see things in a new light. When you take time to be present, especially in nature in a natural setting, it can help you to turn down the noise of the outer world and listen to the wisdom of your heart.

The list of benefits when it comes to nurturing your mind, body, and soul outdoors in nature is endless. Now let’s talk about some outdoor self care activities and ideas for you.

Practicing Self Care Outdoors

Going to a favorite local park or exploring, going on an adventure to a new one can be a great way to incorporate your kids into your outdoor time, into your self care time. You can also pack a picnic or maybe go camping.

One of the things that my girls love doing is dancing in the rain. It is such a joyful and freeing activity and a great way to spend time and have fun in nature. You can do something as simple as sit on your porch and enjoy a cup of tea while you watch the sunrise or the sunset.

Whenever my girls find a grassy hill, they love to roll down it and always invite me to roll with them. So playing in the grass, taking a nap in the grass, and rolling down a hill are all fun ways to ground yourself and reconnect with nature. You can also go to a farmers market or go for an evening stroll and take some time to stargaze after the sun sets.

Another beautiful way to incorporate self care outdoors is to bring your journal outdoors and sit and journal surrounded by the beauty of nature.

No matter what you’re doing, whether you’re at your child’s soccer practice or football game, or walking to pick your child up from school, allow yourself to bring your attention to your senses.

Notice the sights and sounds around you. When you see a flower, stop and gaze at its beauty. Appreciate the leaves and rocks and everything that nature has to offer.

Notice any sounds that you’re hearing. Maybe you’re hearing crickets chirp or birds singing nearby, or maybe there’s a gentle breeze that’s rustling the leaves on a tree nearby. Allow yourself to step out of the mental chatter and into this moment.

Doing this is a wonderful outdoor self care practice and will allow you to find more calm and ease even amongst the busyness and chaos of the motherhood journey. One of our favorite outdoor self care practices is doing yoga in the park.

My girls and I love teaching yoga in the park, but we also just love getting into fun poses and moving in ways that feel good to us as we spend time in nature.

So you might be wondering, how often should I spend time in nature? Spending time in nature daily is what I recommend, but I know that as a busy parent, that might not always feel possible. But there are ways that you can bring elements of nature into your life whether or not you’re able to spend time outside every day.

Some ideas to inspire you are to bring nature indoors. Open the blinds and the windows to let sunlight and fresh air in diffuse essential oils to bring the benefits of nature indoors to you. You can also have house plants as a way to bring nature inside and spend time with the natural elements in your home.

Spending time with pets is another great way to nourish your soul and connect with nature. And you can also spend time with your pets outdoors by taking your dog for a walk.

It’s a great way to spend time with your pet while also surrounding yourself with the beauty of nature and getting that movement in.

Keep infusing your days with self care.

You are worth it!
